The Pahalgam Attack: What Happened?

The terrorists reportedly identified their targets by asking for names and religious identity. In an act of extraordinary courage, a local Muslim pony operator tried to intervene but was killed while protecting others.

Who Is Behind the Attack?

Initially, The Resistance Front (TRF), a Pakistan-backed outfit linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack. Surprisingly, the group retracted its claim within hours. Still, Indian security agencies suspect cross-border involvement. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is leading the investigation and has released suspect sketches.

Security Measures: 48 Tourist Sites Shut Down

To prevent further violence, the Jammu and Kashmir administration closed 48 of the 87 tourist sites in the region. These include popular locations like Doodhpathri, Verinag, Yusmarg, Kokernag, Aharbal, Manasbal, and Tosa Maidan. Officials stated that this step was necessary to protect visitors while intelligence operations are ongoing.
